I have see allot of coverage recently (the last day) of Intel 10th gen and lots of Media Infulencers have been comparing 3rd gen Ryzen against 10th gen process. Since AMD hasnt released 4th gen yet is it fair to compare them, I guess i could find it acceptable to benchmark them against the AMD 'Refreshed processes' such as the Ryzen 9 3950x or the new ryzen 3's however in the I9 benchmarking in a recent LTT video they compared the Ryzen 3900x despite the commenly know fact of the vast difference in thermals and performance.

I Don't know if these reviews are fair or not and these are just what I think, please correct me if im mistaken.

A: Ryzen 3000 is a new architecture, not a "refresh"

B: the 3900x is priced equal to the 10900k, thus why it was used in a comparison to show what you get from both sides of the isle at the same price point. However, AMD has slashed the price of the 3900x by $100 in response so the value of the 3900x just jumped tremendously.

Im talking about the 3950x Being a refresh not the whole of 3rd gen, Also by 'refresh' its more of an optimisation.

its not a refresh. and it beats pretty much all intel desktop cpus

There isn't really any architectural difference between any of these CPUs. They are all based on the Zen 2 architecture. Pretty much the difference between 3950x and 3900x is just binning. Comparing the new R3's or the 3950x to the new 10th gen Intel chips wouldn't be fair because there would be significant price discrepancy between the product begin compared. Theoretically you could level the playing field by disabling cores and whatnot, but then the review loses practical value for people who are shopping for CPUs. The fact of the matter is that if somebody is shopping in the $500 range of CPUs, they are looking between the 3900x and the 10900K. If they are looking at an i5 10600k, they would also be likely to consider similarly priced AMD competition. Regardless, the whole conversation is really just academic because there is no difference in architecture across the Ryzen 3000 lineup. They are all Zen 2 dies (very likely a lot of different SKUs come off of the same wafers in the fab) with different degrees of binning.

3950x is NOT a refresh.. its a 100% new architecture just like the 3900x, 3800x, 3700x, etc... ALL the 3,000 series CPUs, including Threadrippers are 100% new architecture... only the Ryzen 2000 series were "refreshes" from the original Ryzen launch.
