Hey :)

I reinstalled Windows 10 a couple of days ago, but my audio keeps on not working. I've plugged the three audio cables (orange, green, black) into one of my monitors, which is plugged in with displayport in my GPU. I don't have any other audio devices connected. The audio doesn't work, until I reinstall my GPU drivers (including its audio drivers). After a restart, its gone again.

I've tried disabling the onboard audio in the motherboard, which worked once, and then didn't anymore. In Windows, as far as I know, the right output is selected. The testing sounds don't produce any noise.

Is there anything else that I could do? Thanks! :)

Windows can be weird with drivers and chipset firmware

Try mtakikg sure you have the firmware for your audio and check that windows isn't trying to install drivers over the ones your trying to install

@TofuHaroto What firmware for my audio? I've installed the Nvidia audio drivers via GeForce Experience. I also suspect that Windows is deciding to do something stupid but I cannot find what it is doing. After reinstalling all GPU drivers it works just fine, until I restart my PC...

Do you have automatic driver installer on ?

I don't think I've turned anything off, so I guess yes? Isn't it necessary, though, for things like USB devices?

For the most part windows installs good enough drivers when you install windows for the first time so try disabling it and see if that helps

I can't really find it, it seems.

I have a new observation: the audio now worked for a few minutes.... and then just suddenly stopped working again. :/

I'm just gonna shotgun a few ideas:

-Make sure your monitor isn't muted.

-Make sure you speakers work by plugging the green plug in your phone and playing something.

-Check your DPort cable by giving it a few wiggles while playing something with sound.

-Plug your DPort cable into a different output on your GPU if you can.

-Swap your DPort cable with another one.

-Make sure your Nvidia sound is selected under Settings > System > Sound

-Make sure DPort audio output is selected in your Nvidia Control Panel.

-Reinstall Nvidia drivers.

Hope this helps man.

Didn't think of those because I assumed OP already knew about them

But I agree lol

Thanks a bunch for the tips!

- Monitor isn't muted (there doesn't even seem to be a setting for it, actually!) and is set to 5.1.

- I plugged the three individual cables into my phone and they all played their respective speakers just fine.

- The audio itself works fine, until it just randomly disappears. The cables are tucked in really securely on either side, and wiggling them didn't seem to help.

- I only have one DisplayPort on my GPU, (un)fortunately.

- My only other DisplayPort cable doesn't reach my screen and both my computer and screen practically cannot be moved. Considering this happened after reinstalling windows, and that the DisplayPort cable is a high quality one from less than a year old, I doubt anything would be wrong there. The picture on the display itself is fine, and I haven't unplugged it.

- Nvidia sound is selected there, as far as I can tell. I'll post a picture below.

- I've reinstalled the Nvidia drivers already at least 5 times. :D They are the only thing that seem to fix it right now. :P

This is a screenshot from all the settings that I get in Audio in the Nvidia Control Panel. Changing the BenQ monitor to off doesn't change anything.

Try unplugging your BenQ monitor from the HDMI line and rebooting. Maybe the system or Nvidia is trying to force sound output through HDMI instead of DPort. I might be out of ideas after that.

Tried that, but it didn't help. :/ Still no audio after a reboot.

When I still had audio, I tried to use EqualizerAPO to make it so that not just the Left and Right speakers get sound (stupid Windows 10 doesn't have speaker fill built in), but it couldn't get any sound from them...

I tried plugging my monitor into my laptop, but that didn't create any sound. :P It also didn't create a picture, because I had to plug in the monitor with HDMI (laptop doesn't have DisplayPort) and the monitor doesn't have good enough HDMI to drive itself. :P
