Hey guys first post here, so I apologize if this isn't the right forum.

My family has been using the Lenovo Flex 4-1480 for about 4-5 years. Recently I have noticed that the screen is flickering and grey bars are appearing. I don't know if this is due to the screen or the internal video cable. The screen is touch and it rotates 360 degrees. I noticed that when I smack the screen it goes back to normal for a while. The screen works normally when I connect to a external monitor. I was wondering what I need to replace to get the laptop working again.

Thank you to anyone who responds.

You LCD panel is failing/failed. If will have to get it replaced. banging the display is not a good idea, you could damage the laptop itself.Generally for such panels replacing the video board or cable of the LCD panel is not possible as you need high end equipment for doing so and the cost is just not worth it, its cheaper to just replace the entire LCD panel

Sorry difficult to tell. Usually its because of the cable that connects the LCD controller card to the actual LCD panel. This cable is fixed onto the LCD glass panel using ACH tape. With age and repeated heating and cooling of the LCD panel this tape lossens therby marginally releasing the cable from the panel causing the black and grey horizontal lines. While it is possible to rebond the ribbon back to the panel this is an expensive process (mainly because of the equipment required to do this.  This could also explain why it starts working when you tap the panel, the connection rejoins temporarily.

Apart from this the problem could be with the controller card (components failing). In olden days it was possible to replace this card, but nowadays these cards are part of the LCD panel and replacing or repairing this is difficult if not impossible.

At the end of the day its a simple financial equation, repairing the panel is much more of an effort and expense that replacing the panel
