I have scoured and reworded the issue I'm having in all manner of forums, and search engines, to no avail, so here we go.

Phone specs: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 N960U, Android Version 10. (If anything else specific would help, please ask and I shall provide.) I should also mention that this phone is a refurb from Asurion (I lost my original phone), and has been persistent since I got the phone. I would have had them send me a new one, but they want to charge me another $200 for a replacement and won't budge. I've had this replacement since November 2019.

The issue I'm having is specifically with Bluetooth calling. When I make a call, the person on the other end can hear me crystal clear, while I can't hear them at all. What I hear is tiny, random, intermittent pops, not too loud but sometimes they can be a high enough frequency to irritate my ears. This is consistent on any Bluetooth enabled device with calling; my car radio, my galaxy ear buds, my Audio Technica ATH-M50xBT and my wife's Bose headphones.

Note that everything else Bluetooth works just fine such as listening to music or watching movies, other devices such as controllers, mice and keyboards.

Steps I've taken to try and resolve the issue:

Cleared the cache from the safe mode menu.

Restore phone to factory default. This has worked to a point. After a fresh install without restoring a back up or anything, Bluetooth calling will work for 2-5 minutes, but eventually degrades into me not hearing anything besides the aforementioned pops.

I love this phone to bits, had it since launch, and I'd really rather not have to get a new phone. And honestly, I don't use Bluetooth calling all that often, but it would be nice to have it while in the car.

Thank you for any help.

So what I'm getting is you're routing all audio from a phone call to something Bluetooth. If so, does this popping sound occur during non-Bluetooth calls? Does it happen while you're on speakerphone or using the regular internal earpiece? Does this happen with wired headphones as well?

Pair your bluetooth headset/earpiece

Pull down quick settings menu

Long press bluetooth

Your headset/earpiece should appear. Top the cogwheel to the right

Ensure at least the first 3 sliders are to the right (enabled)

If you made any changes, try a call and let me know

Same situation. Everything but Bluetooth calling works. The other person can hear me, but I can't hear them.

Try setting Bluetooth Audio Codec to SBC and make a call

If this dont work, I have no idea whats going wrong

Remember to set audio codec back to default if it dont work.

It was already set to SBC, so i tried setting to default, then all codecs, and all the rest. As soon as I make a call, it automatically switches to SBC and nothing changes.

Could the antenna be damaged?

Edit: any changes that I make to the Bluetooth settings automatically go back to what they were set to before as soon as I make a call.

Also noticed that the codec changed since i took that screenshot. It was on SBC when i went to change the codec. This bloody phone is all kinds of wacky.

That's actually normal. It changes based on what type of audio is being transmitted. During calls it should switch to SBC and then revert back after.

It seems everything is fine on the software side of things, so you probably have a hardware issue I can't help you to fix.

That's what I figured. I just thought it was odd that after a factory refresh, it works for about 5 minutes, then goes back to not working.

Thanks for trying. Guess I'll be getting the Note 20 or w/e they'll call it.
