USB Security Key Not Working on Win10 (ID Software)

I hope it's okay that I ask this here.

The company I work for has this ancient ID software. It uses a USB dongle as its security key. The software was installed on Windows 7, but is now being installed and moved to Windows 10. It seems to install just fine. In device manager, the USB dongle has the same name that it has on the Windows 7 machine; however, when attempting to open the software, it doesn't see the dongle, and refuses to open as a result.

Has anyone had this type of problem with older software and found a solution?

Running a copy of windows 7 on a different drive is out of the question? I have several older CAD and Automation software that all need one or more dongles, none really work, some do from time to time but then lock up mid-operation, crashing the pc.

Also some dongles are registered to your pc's specs and cannot be transferred. In that case, you need to recover the key and transfer it into a new one, only possible by contacting the publisher and likely for a small fee if they are even willing to cooperate at all.
