OK so my mum's phone has this crappy microSD card that camy with the phone. It's a 2GB card and everytime I try to copy information from it it just stops working. The same happens when I put it in her phone.

Do you know what might be the problem and is it fixable. She has some information on it that shte wants and I want to copy it before she gets a new card.

I have had this trouble with phones for a long time and have no idea why. The only solution I have found is reduce the amount of files you copy at a single time. For example if you are trying to copy 50 files and it stops working, just copy 5 at a time. This usually solves it, if I copy more than 40 files to my tablet at once it freezes up and I have to start over.
