PC fails to boot requires inconsistent number of restarts.

ClonicMechanics

Hello everyone, I've been having a issue with my PC sense may 7 when I created my last topic here. Notably the issues brought up their have been fixed. Every time I turn my PC on, it shows the starting windows screen but After the orbs appear it will cycle through them for a while then black screen then it goes back to the start up image with the orbs frozen in place. I've tried just letting it continue to see if it was just a issue with it taking a while to load particular file. In the end though I have to turn it off and back on. I have to do that every time this happens. After 3 times windows startup repair loads then one more restart and I'm officially in window. Any reboots after this point have no issue. It seems to only happen from a cold boot. Any help would be appreciated.

I've used driver identifier and have updated every driver and the bios to the latest version.

My troubleshooting let me to believe it may have been Asus Aura at the time but I fixed that now. The only thing it may is windows. I reset my PC the other day and I'm still having the issue. Window has stated its failed updates but that's inconsistent as well.

Some windows files appear to be corrupted; you can run startup repair or if that fails reinstall windows.

I guess it may be borked that badly Ill have to do a full wipe and reinstall because what I tried the other day was within startup repair.

Migrated disk with OS from another build?  Yeah, while Windows is okay at getting things to "work" because of generic drivers, a fresh install is always recommended from me when doing a massive hardware change (hell for me, if I change GPU /RAM/PSU no reinstall, but if I change out storage -that was the OS drive-, mobo or CPU - we get a fresh install)

well I upgraded the cpu when the 2600 came out. As for the RX 5600xt it was a recent upgrade everything was working just fine now I dont really have a good idea of whats going on because of the inconsistency.

Did you use DDU to remove all GPU drivers before installing the 5600 XT?  And yes I consider a CPU upgrade worth reinstalling Windows

I personally would reinstall Windows to ensure there was no software issue with the hardware upgrade then

One other issue Ive seen is Asus may have not been keeping up to date on all of the drivers but I updated everything I could.

Im talking about the CPU causing the issue - when I reinstall its to 100% eliminate any software glitches.  So I can then focus on hardware.

Yes if your BIOS revision is old - check that now, and read up on which you should be using for that CPU!

I got the 2600 when it came out and did a fresh install after I installed it that was about a year ago now. my Bios revision is the latest for my board according to the Asus website at least.

Not trying to discredit you or misunderstand you but I'm meaning I don't get why this system would be doing it now unless windows itself is causing the issue now.

Gotcha!  Thanks for clarifying - all important stuff when using the modicum of communication that is text - check your BIOS revision, it may be unsupported by Zen1 if you went to the latest revision - go through the list of BIOS updates and see if any mention of instability with previous generations to get Zen 2 to work on that board (which would be the MOST recent BIOS updates)

Alright so what would you recommend me to do about this as well. It seems I have misplaced my windows key. I moved earlier this year and may have left it at the old place. I guess I can just use the media creation tool again and get a new key if I have to from SCDkey they have been very reputable in the past.

I personally have a Win 10 ISO I don't activate unless I want to (with either nefarious tools or as you note - buying a grey market key)

If Media Creation will allow the Win 10 ISO to be created (Im not sure...I use more nefarious practices typically lol) then I would worry about the key last ($3-5 on ebay one shot use keys).  If one were so inclined its also a simple root change from a 1 to a 0 and Windows no longer searches for activation ;) (which causes the Microsoft suite to not work - Outlook, Word etc and not allow you to change your Windows background but those are all expensive paid programs I personally don't use on my non work rigs)
