Ryzen 4th Gen upgrade?

Hey guys,

I am currently using a Ryzen 1700x and was wondering if I should upgrade to the ryzen 5 3600x/ ryzen 7 3700x (Still undecided) now, or if I should hold out until 4th gen ryzen?

If you guys do recommend 3rd gen, I can get the 3600x for £153 or the 3700x for £215 which would be better do you think?

What motherboard do you currently have?

If you have an older motherboard, you might be limited to 3000-series -- you need to swap the motherboard to use Ryzen 4000-series.

 

GTX 1070 can still hold its own, even now, but a RTX 2070 would be a pretty nice performance boost.

I have a B450 mobo, I wasn’t sure if I would have to upgrade mobo so I will probably go with 3rd gen

Looks like B450 won't support Ryzen 4000-series (unless AMD changes their mind).

You need a 500-series board (e.g. B550, X570) for Ryzen 4000-series.
