Windows 10 install reboot loop

I've been trying to help a friend install windows on to his ssd since he's moving it from his hdd and whenever we get to selecting a partition it says it needs to reboot and kicks us back to the install now screen when it reboots. We've tried changing the file type to gpt and it still comes up this way prior to that it woudln't let us pick a partition to begin with....

 

 

any help is appreciated!
