SSD Question

Hello,
I recently bought a Dell G5 5590 with i7-9750h, GTX 1660ti, 256 gb SSD, and a 1 tb HDD. I thought that the boot drive was the SSD but its the HDD. Is there anyway I can change that?

You'll need to reinstall OS on the SSD and set it as the primary boot drive.

So when I reinstall it will it prompt me what drive I want to boot from?

I'm not expert but 2 years ago i used Macrium Reflect to clone my win 7 from hhd to ssd and its worked no issues without loosing any data

then i deleted  old hhd win entery from boot sittings (msconfig)

Just fyi. If the hdd shows "first" in your bios/uefi boot sequence and/or your bios/uefi settings it does not necessarily mean it is the boot device. It might mean that it is connected to the first polled sata port. Modern systems are smart about not failing to boot if the OS drive is not the first one.

On the other hand, windows is a bit finnicky and it may install your OS on the SSD but the boot filea on the first detected storage device.

 

We probably need more information like what disk manager shows.

Check the C drive properties in Computer. If it's 250gb its SSD if its 1tb its HDD

Here is the disk management I can see the 1tb hdd there and what i pressume is the 256 gb ssd and it says there that its booting from the hdd. I also attached (i think) the model information in case that is helpful. I checked the properties as well it says 950 gb so I would pressume its the hdd.

Did you check the properties of the C drive in "Computer" not in disk management

I checked it through the file explorer. I right clicked and hit properties on the c drive and this is what it shows.

I can't see what it says. Does it show the C drive capacity as 1tb or close to 1tb. If so then your booting off your 1tb HDD

Yea it says disk capacity is 930 gb. So should I reinstall windows or try to use a migration tool to put it on the ssd?

Then your booting and running off the 1tb HDD

Try migrating to ssd if that does'nt work you can reinstall to ssd

Try cloning it over it should work. Make sure ssd is set as boot drive in bios after you clone it

Hello,

Sorry about the time in between posts didnt have time to do this last week. Anyways I copied the files over to the SSD no issues there. I went into the bios tho and when I choose for the SSD to boot windows (in the boot sequence area of the bios the one on top is where it boots i believe) it gives me the bitlocker error. Did I do something wrong?
