So, the reason this isn't working is because it's an FTP Client and not an FTP Server.  So, what it wants to do is download files from an FTP Server and store them on the media you have plugged into the device.  

 

Due to the fact that these routers rarely get patched and run older versions of Linux I would advise against using an FTP server on a router, and even moreso if it's unencrypted FTP.  There are multiple good solutions if you want to share files between your computes on the go by hosting something at your house, and even if you want to expose it to the world, like an FTP Server. 

 

Let me know if you're interested in knowing about the options. I think you're actually very lucky you weren't able to get this to work as a server.  You could've probably relatively easily got hacked and your files copied, or worse someone gaining access to certain files and operating system components by using the FTP Server.  It's definitely a possibility depending on the security your router has, not what you configured but what the developers configured on the actual operating system.
