Something's Wrong here....

Go to solution Solved by Flight1sim,

ok i seem to have solve the problem

I replaced my HDD, with a 256GB SSD, and restored my laptop to windows 7..

Seems to be fine now, no freezing, but temps are the same

I plan to open my laptop and clean the heatsink, and reapply thermal paste.

My Lenovo Y580 randomly freezes while searching my harddrive

Like for example, i searched for geforce experience which is in my C: drive, and it freezes, and goes back to normal within 1 minute.

Whats wrong?

Also, my screen flickers black sometimes, when exiting fullscreen in youtube. That never happened before.

And my temps are WAAAAYYY too high for my laptop, so do i have an overheating HDD?

Is MY LAPTOP DOOMED?

It probably isn't the hdd causing the heat but most likely the buildup of dust in it. Take some canned air and blow it out or even open it up. The HDD could easily be affected by the heat but it looks more like the system itself is too hot. How long have you had it for?

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

only one way to know. You'll have to swap the hard drive in your computer for some other 2.5" hard drive and test with that.

y580 is a laptop series less than a year old. My laptop is 3 years old, and I only recently opened it for some dust cleaning, and there wasn't that much inside. I really doubt dust is the issue.

Could OP post some temps from hwmonitor?

I opened up my laptop yesterday, and used compressed air to remove the dust. (there was no dust)

My laptop is about 1 1/2 years old, and i've overclocked using a modded BIOS, which BTW has never impacted my temps.

Have you done a SMART analysis of your hard drive?

Use a program like crystal disk or something

I did, and Crystal Disk reported that the condition was 'GOOD'

Ok this is weird....

The area under my HDD is BOILING HOT (ok not That hot ~80 Degrees)

SO i highly doubt that my HDD temps are just 50 Degrees

Oh, and the Samsung is the MSATA SSD that came with my laptop

Lenovo had a feature called RapidDrive, where the HDD and SSD are linked as one drive, which was terrible to install a new os...

I disabled RapidDrive, so i can actually replace my HDD
