I'm looking for the best laptop for my needs. I write music in CPU intensive software, and use a sketch program and Inkspace for graphic design. I also intend to be able play games smoothly at medium to high graphics such as Doom, Warzone and Civilization VI, to name a few. I was initially looking at the new Zephyrus G14 for my needs, but the lack of an additional DisplayPort put me off, especially because I wanted to take advantage of AMD for multi-tasking with multiple displays at home (it remains a strong contender for me). I was also looking at a Lenovo Y740 after a previous suggestion, but my budget has increased and I want a better grasp of the possibilities. This laptop is intended to be my all around "workhorse", as my old one is terrible and I need the portability.

  • Budget is between $1'000 USD to $2'500 USD, but I can push it if necessary
  • Should be sturdy enough where I don't have to worry too much if I bump it every now and then
  • No weight limit
  • Battery life should be decent (4+ hours with high use or similar to Zeph G14)
  • Higher than 60hz refresh rate
  • The closer the color accuracy, the better (if possible)
  • DisplayPort
  • If Intel CPU, should have Thunderbolt (with PD)
  • If AMD, should have USB-C with DisplayPort compatibility
  • 2-3 USB-A ports
  • Doesn't need a webcam, but it would be welcome
  • Should be capable with 2 external displays

The Zephyrus G14 has USB-C with Display Port so you can use an adapter for another display.

I was already aware of this, but I only just realized that I'd probably be able to daisy-chain a third screen as well. I still wanna know if I should consider something else, but I'm realizing there are fewer things to worry about regarding the Zephyrus G14. Thank you anyway.
