Budget (including currency): Less than £2000

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • The things I use my PC for are as follows.

    • CAD, 3D Design / games (mainly F1 2019 and Football Manager) / browsing / photography / downloads / streaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

My current PC has been going strong for 12+ years now - some minor upgrades. I've been holding off major upgrade for ages during which I've bought a Dell XPS laptop.  Recently I bought a cheap wheel and chair setup for race sim but found my isn't up to the task but my laptop can just about run F1 2019. However it seems to generate a lot of heat and I believe it'll slowly degrade the laptop. Hence the need to upgrade my PC.

Below is a link of my current PC build, and my planned upgrade. I'm hoping it will last me also for a very long time too.  Could anyone advise if I would have any compatibility issues between MOBO, CPU, GPU and RAM?  There are number of components reused from my current build to keep costs low and allow me to spend more on performance parts - I've identified those components like [REUSED] below.

Below I've tried to summarise my thoughts on each part of the build.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5 GHz 16-Core Processor (£689.87 @ Scan.co.uk) [NEW]

My understanding is if I want to do multiple tasks or leave a ton of software open in the background this is the chip to go for.

It's pricey and I have thought about going to the 3700x but I think if I spent the money on the CPU it'll last much longer and keep me satisfied with it's performance.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler [REUSED]

I believe I should be able to use the same cooler for now until I figure out whether custom loop water cooling is the most silent way forward.

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming ATX AM4 Motherboard (£274.99 @ AWD-IT) [NEW]
  1. I've always wanted to own an ASUS motherboard, the BIOS is nicer to work with than the Gigabyte stuff I have used (though my mobo is 12 years old).
  2. Plenty of SATA connections available here for SSD A & B, 1 or 2 HDDs, CD/DVD DRIVE.

  3. Onboard WiFi connection so I can get rid of my dongle I currently use.

  4. Bluetooth so I can pair up my headphones, otherwise I'd need a dongle otherwise.

  5. Internal USB headers - not sure how many I get on the motherboard here.

    • I need two for the case (2.0 and 3.0) and another for a 5.25" SD Card Reader.

  6. Lots of external USB ports for the following.

Memory: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory (£391.71 @ Newegg UK) [NEW]

I took the recommendation from Gamers Nexus YT videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IY_KlkQK1Q

Storage: OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£154.02 @ Amazon UK) [REUSED]

I've been advised to keep windows and other software installations separate. So this will be my Windows install drive.

I'm kinda torn between installing windows on an existing SSD or buying a m.2 drive like the Storage: Western Digital Blue 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (£46.17 @ Amazon UK)

Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive [REUSED]

Software install drive.

Storage: Seagate BarraCuda Pro 10 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£305.00 @ Amazon UK) [NEW]

I was planning on shucking my 8TB external drive and use that instead but I think I'll use it as a backup drive as I found a great deal on this drive plus it's 7200rpm.

Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GAMING Z Video Card (£379.99 @ Amazon UK) [NEW]
  1. Having done done some research on a GPU according to most reviews this is the quietest 2060 GPU.

  2. There doesn't seem to be a massive difference in fps comparing the SUPER vs NON-SUPER on F1 2019 benchmarks @ 2560x1440

  3. A monitor upgrade will be required at some point I know.

Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£127.40 @ Alza) [REUSED]

I might change this case at a later date if I upgrade to custom water cooling.

Power Supply: be quiet! DARK POWER PRO 11 850 W 80+ Platinum Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply (£195.77 @ More Computers) [REUSED]

It's mega silent!!!

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer (£44.65 @ Newegg UK) [REUSED]

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit [REUSED]

Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 54.97 CFM 120 mm Fan (£19.73 @ Overclockers.co.uk) [REUSED]

Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 54.97 CFM 120 mm Fan (£19.73 @ Overclockers.co.uk) [REUSED]

Case Fan: Noctua NF-S12A ULN 120 mm Fan (£17.89 @ Amazon UK) [REUSED]

Case Fan: Noctua NF-S12A ULN 120 mm Fan (£17.89 @ Amazon UK) [REUSED]

Case Fan: be quiet! SilentWings 3 pwm 59.5 CFM 140 mm Fan (£21.59 @ CCL Computers [NEW]

Case Fan: be quiet! SilentWings 3 pwm 59.5 CFM 140 mm Fan (£21.59 @ CCL Computers [NEW]

Case Fan: be quiet! SilentWings 3 pwm 59.5 CFM 140 mm Fan (£21.59 @ CCL Computers [NEW]

I'm going to ditch the Fractal Design fans that came with the case as they are noisy on my machine at the moment.

2 are for the intake at the front and 1 for the exhaust.

  1. The AIO CPU cooler is mounted at the top in a push/pull config using the Noctua's.

Monitor: BenQ BL3200 [REUSED] (FOR NOW)

Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X4 (UK Layout) Wired Standard Keyboard[REUSED]

Mouse: Logitech MX Master Bluetooth Wireless Laser Mouse[REUSED]
