I've got a Xiaomi mi A2. It fell in some water and after a few days of drying I try turning it on. The display lights up (dark grey) and turns off after a few seconds. But it does seem to boot up, because when I touch the fingerprint sensor, the phone vibrates. The display stays off. Phone charges normally.

When I go into fastboot (not entiraly sure what that does) the display stays on the whole time, but it only shows a dark grey.
I brought it to a service centre, but they weren't much help. They told me its not worth fixing; its too damaged. They apparently can't even get the data out of it. Seems kinda odd to me since the phone seems to boot up.

Is there a way for me to recover the data somehow?

From what I've seen most guides mention USB debugging, and bunch of apps, but obviously thats all useless since I can't do anything on the phone.

Or maybe, is there a way to determine if the display is bad or something on the mobo?
I can replace the display myself if thats the only issue... They seem to be cheap.

When your mobile falls in water, do NOT turn it on. Dry it out for a week or two and it should work again. Unboiled rice will speed up the progress.

What data is there? Is something you can copy off the phone to a PC if you get it to turn on? I would suggest to dry it out as described and try this if you still can't use the phone as normal.
