CATASTROPHE

eggnaldo

Hi,

I recently got a new motherboard and as I was taking the heatsink off of my old one to remove the CPU, I found the cooler was stuck and wouldn't come up. I thought it was just suction and pressure from the thermal paste so I kept pulling, and the cooler pulled the CPU out of the socket. Now the CPU has 2 or 3 bent pins and is still stuck to the cooler. The thermal paste has practically glued the two components together.

What do I do?MVIMG_20200505_181247.thumb.jpg.9bb56dc254abc0113f369ed592675d6f.jpg

You manualy straighten the little pins. nice and carefully. They move easily.

to get it unstuck-put a bit of isopropyl alcohol on the sides, and use dental floss to seperate the cpu from the cooler

Nice.

Or "twist or turn it"

Damn paste is hard core.

For the future, when taking off AMD chips you want them to be warm when you take the cooler off.

i always carefully use the pick end of a floss strip, and/or some tiny forceps.

It literally will not move, no matter how much force i put on it. It's like it got glued to the cooler :(

Update: I got the CPU off! I cleaned it up and I'll unbend the pins tonight or tomorrow. Thank you!
