So I just built a pc. These are my specs https://pcpartpicker.com/user/SirPie/saved/kwCgt6. I am using these 3 case fans https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BK1BMHX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the stock cpu cooler and the stock fan in the case as my 4th fan. I am connecting all of the fans using this fan hub https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077YHLDSP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. My problem is that I am getting high cpu temps and my pc will sometimes just turn off while gaming. I have messed around with the settings in Ryzen master and nothing has helped so I just set them back to default. The attached picture is the settings in Ryzen Master for my CPU and a picture of my PC. (Don't mind the second screen. It is my 2nd monitor and I couldn't figure out how to take a screenshot without it) I have tried many things and nothing seems to help. I have looked up my problem on Youtube and other forums and I haven't found much useful. Does anyone have suggestions?

We need to know what kind of temps you are seeing. Are you using the Ryzen Balanced power plan? Download and install the latest chipset driver from AMD and use the latest Ryzen balanced plan.

I am getting temps of about 95 degrees celcius. Sometimes a few degrees above, sometimes a few degrees below. I am using Ryzen Master to look at temps and it said that 95 degrees was the limit, the gauge in Ryzen Master turned red when it hit 90 degrees. The troubleshooting that I have done is flipping the fans to make sure that I had 2 intake fans and 2 exhaust. I also set my power plan to the AMD Balanced plan. I originally had 3 fans so I got a 4th and the fan hub to connect the fourth and that didn't help either. I also reinstalled the cpu cooler. I have also made sure that my chipset drivers are the newest version and they are. So far, nothing has helped and I am starting to get worried.

Make sure you tag people who wants to help if you do not quote them so they get alerted to your post. @rahl97

When you reinstalled the cooler, you cleaned off the thermal paste with Isopropanol or similar and applied new paste? How much?

I still require more information. What chassis are you using? Also have you set any custom fan profiles? Can you download and install HWinfo? Run the sensors and observe if fan speeds go up when the temp rises. If you touch the metal on the CPU heat sink is is hot to the touch?

Connect the cpu fan into the cpu fan connection in the motherboard. Why would you connect the cpu fan in a hub? The cpu fan wont increase its power if its getting hot, the cpu. Also, check that the cooler is properly connected and that you didnt forget thermalpaste.

The cpu cooler isn't connected to the hub. It is connected to the cpu fan header on the motherboard. Just the case fans are connected to the hub @dzcarlos

Hmmm... check the things i mention. Many people forget about thermal paste or dont set the cooler properly.

Also, reset the mobo bios. There can be an overclock or increase of voltage to cpu. Ram overclock can increase the cpu temp too.

@dzcarlos I didn't forget thermal paste. I used the stock AMD Wraith cooler that comes with thermal paste preapplied. Do you know how to reset the mobo bios in the msi click bios 5?

Sometimes it comes with a plastic to cover the thermal paste. Did you remove it?

To reset bios:

1. Hook reset switch up to jbat1.
2. Unplug or turn off PSU
3. Push power button to discharge the system completely
4. Push and hold reset button for a few seconds
5. Turn on or plug in PSU
6. Turn on computer

This is something i found on reddit.

You can also check the bios and see if you can find the defaults settings.

@aDoomGuyWhen I reinstalled the cpu cooler I did not reapply thermal paste because 1: I don't have thermal paste (the stock AMD Cooler comes with it preapplied) 2: I built the system a day ago so I can't imagine that is the issue. The reason I reinstalled the cpu cooler was because one of the screw wasn't reaching the mobo backplate socket. The chassis is in the pcpartpicker link. It is the Matrrexx 50 by Deepcool. I have not set any custom fan profiles (I don't know what that means in fact) I installed HWinfo but I can't find where I can monitor the fan speeds. The cpu heat sink refers to the thing attached to the cpu fan and in between the fan and the cpu? If so, it is not hot to the touch when I am in game.

@aDoomGuy @rahl97 @dzcarlos Update: I have reset the overclock that I already thought I did in Bios back to 3.6Ghz instead of 4.2. I also reset the RAM overclock to 2666 instead of 3600. (not sure the unit but I know it is standard) This was able to get me down to about 84-88 degrees which is a large improvement. I am very satisfied but if anyone has more suggestions I would love to get it below 80.

Just for sanity's sake I would get a tube of thermal paste and redo it yourself, cleaning the old stuff off. I generally haven't found a problem with the pre applied stuff, but I know people who have issues with it. Especially where you've reused it.

@rahl97 I will do that at some point. Any brand or specific thermal paste you would recommend?

Yes the heatsink is the metal bit between the fan and the CPU. Ok you have not set a custom fan profile, can you head into your UEFI/BIOS and find the fan control? My Asus board lets me chose between predefined profiles such as Silent. Turbo and Full speed. Can you try to locate something similar to this and set it to a high or even the highest setting and see how that affects your temps?

I would also redo the thermal paste and make sure the heatsink and fan are properly mounted.

When you start up HWinfo choose "SENSORS-ONLY" in the little window that first appears and click Run, it should open a window full of sensor readings.

It's not a dangerous temp but still too high I think.

I personally just get any reputable brand that's on sale or cheaper haha. Arctic silver, cooler master, noctua, thermal take etc.

Watch a video on how much to apply etc if needed.

@rahl97 @aDoomGuy @dzcarlosUpdate 2: When playing a game of Rainbow Six Siege the system did not crash but stabilized around 92-93 degrees. It was fine but that is still a very high temp. I was trying to find the fan controller in BIOS and I did but it only recognized the stock fan that came with the case and the cpu cooler fan. I set those 2 to full but the RPM didn't change so I assume they were already there to begin with. I have ordered Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste and will reapply when it gets here. I will stick to my old pc, that I will be selling when I get this one stable, for the time being for gaming so as to not melt anything. Relating to HWinfo, I had already done the sensors only thing but I can't find the fans. Just out of curiosity, what would prolonged use at these temperatures do to the cpu/mobo?

Well..... The CPU is made so it shuts down when a certain threshold is reached as you have noticed. However it starts to degrade much more rapidly closer to TJ Max (said threshold) and thus will have it's lifespan reduced.

I'm thinking, fan speed didn't change and the heat sink wasn't burning hot so I'm pretty sure there is poor contact between the CPU and the heatsink, possibly through a poor mount or thermal paste. When you mount the cooler to the CPU make sure that you tighten each screw incrementally. Perhaps 5 turns on on the first then switch to the next and again 5 turns etc. It may also be a good idea to tighten them diagonally this will keep pressure even.

@aDoomGuy That is what I did. I tightened each screw incrementally diagonally. I used 4 turns though. I will reapply thermal paste
