Budget (including currency): $350-400 US dollars

 

Country: 00901 Puerto Rico. I got Amazon Prime.

 

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • Ubuntu 18 or 20 LTS support
  • Virtualization with a Ubuntu LTS or Linux HOST OS.
  • QEMU, Virtualbox and VMWare Player. (I got Linux experience)
  • Android Studio
  • System development. (C, C++ and Rust)
  • Web browsing

 

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

  • I'm upgrading from an Late 2016 Acer Swift 3 laptop sf314-51: mobile Intel Core i5 with 8GB of Ram and SATA 256 GB SSD storage, integrated graphics. With this machine 8GB of RAM is my problem.
  • I'll buy in two weeks. May 18, 2020.
  • I'll continue to use my laptop for non Virtualization purposes.

I already got:

  • 2.5 128 GB SATA SDD. Thats all the storage I'll need for now.
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • 21:9 1080p LG 25UM58-P HDMI Monitor
  • Headphones

Prefer:

  • Basic or integrated graphics, enough for a Gnome GUI and Video reproduction.
  • Future GPU upgrade
  • VT-x/AMD-V and VT-d.
  • At least 1 SATA removable  storage bay.
  • At least 2 SATA drive bays
  • 60 Hz
  • Run at least 2 1GB RAM GUEST CLI Linux OS concurrently with the HOST OS. Not all the time, only as needed.
  • 16 GB RAM

Note:

I dont intend this build as a server. I'll only use it when I work on it. I'll only start GUEST OSs when needed.

If you can squeeze out 45 more dollars you could instead wait for the upcoming Ryzen 3 3100 CPU which costs 99$ but has no integrated GPU.

Ubuntu seems to install better on AMD display cards at least for me.
