I am probably going with Hybrid GPUs next gen and the Hafs are not designed for that. Can you recommend a replacement that can also accommodate a Noctua NH D15?

I bought a SilverStone Technology RL06BR-GP for a i9 9900k build and I loved the build quality of the case but it was too narrow for 2 fans on the Noctua NH D15 and the little case fans are too noisy under load. Fortunately I won the silicon lottery on the i9 9900k so it can run cool with one fan even with an all core 5ghz overclock and I built the computer for my Son to use when he is in town so I don't have to listen to it.

I would love to find a case the has the build quality of the SilverStone and be quiet like the ols Hafs.

Dh15 is an air cooler.  I think the term “radiator” may have been too loose.  I was specifically referring to water-air radiators on AIOs and custom loops.

assuming hybrid gpu means a gpu with a water loop on it as well as a fan, the radiators for the GPUs (plural?!) would need their own fans of the appropriate size much like the Dh15 comes with.  I doubt the dh15 would work passively with 200mm fans. (Or at all really.  The dh15 was not designed for passive cooling)  The 200mm fans would not push air through them most likely.  I’ve seen 1 or 2 200 mm radiators but they were specially made and very thin to accommodate the very low static pressure of the 200mm fans.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Hybrid GPUs have radiators, usually 120mm but I may get one with a 240mm. I will probably do a push-pull setups as well.

I am still planning to use DH 15s for CPUs since I own 3 and I would only consider getting rid of them if they were in the way of the GPU radiator setups.

I run 4 computers with Haf cases. Three with DH 15s and one with Noctua NH-U14S. Two are running 2080 tis, one with a 1080 ti and one with two 1080s in SLI. All but one are overclocked. I am not having any issues with them and all my overclocked parts run cool.

I am replacing the two 2011 vintage Hafs first and my choice so far is the Cooler Master MasterCase H500M. It has a high price but I keep cases for a very long time so not a problem.

For what it’s worth Linus did a video once on attaching a dh15 to a gpu.  It took up every slot on the motherboard but it worked really really well.  If you’ve already got multiples of them ther may be something there.

High end stuff can help.  My ASUS Hero motherboards have LED readouts that show codes that tell my why the system stopped before booting and have reset and start buttons so they don't need a case. They are considered a luxury be I think they should be on laa motherboards.

hey guys insanely good news. so i unplugged my psu from the surge protector and the wall and left it for about 2 days. I booted my pc today and it fixed itself. thanks so much for helping me on the way. Im still not sure what the problem was but i will try to find out. again, thank you so much for all the help you gave. both of you.

Hardware doesn’t “fix itself”.  That’s magical thinking.  Something ran out of power and had to reset from backup.

so some sort of settings/driver/firmware error.

You may have simply cleared the cmos if your button battery wasn’t charging any more.  Might want to replace it.

It sounds close to the issue that I get with my FTW3 Ultra when I have to switch off the power supply, wait for the lights on the motherboard to go out and then switch it back on again for it to work.  I have already bought a replacement for that PSU even though it might be the GPU or motherboard doing it.

At least you know what to do if it happens again.

Finding out may be a step.  Was there a period between the first problem and the second problem where things worked fine or does this seem to be a result of solving the first problem and things didn’t ever get back right?

if it is then i hope they fix it soon.

After the last major update all the games that use the Havok physics engine started doing mini freezes or crashing. Removing my CPU overclock fixed it. I have had the overclocks on since 2018 with no issues.

The small update this week stopped my saves loading in Fallout 4 if I have it set to full screen. With borderless windows the saves will load. I have been playing Fallout 4 on and off since 2015 in full screen mode.

To see if I have lost performance I run benches and take screen shots and compare them to older screenshots. This is a pain to do because I have to use presets for a good comparisons but I play with custom setups.

I had a good run of two years without having game issues but now it is back to the bad old days.

For some reason or other microsoft is adding incremental feature update after incremental feature update and they’re doing it badly.  Every time they change  something they break something else.  It’s also a problem with gpu drivers though that tends to be gpu specific.

Security updates need to happen of course.  It’s critical, and I can see how windows might be a pile of patches on top of patches at this point.  It was never a modular design the way Unix or Linux was, so it’s probably a big mess under the hood.  It feels a bit like nt4 again though.

Way back in the 80s I was a programer and communicated with other programmers through Genie on line and some Microsoft programs told me they got paid by the line so they wrote as many lines as they could.  After seeing Windows 2.1 I believed them.

I mainly did Motorola 68000 programming and had Unix on one of my Amigas along with a Personal Iris running X Windows. I thought Windows 2.1 was terrible and I would not work with it.

That was the reason I got into 3D. It is just ironic that all the software I used migrated to Windows and in the end was forced to use it if I wanted to make a living.

So there’s probably a lot of cleaning out that needs to be done.   Windows probably needs to be a ton cleaner than it is much more than it needs new features.   I don’t even mind them breaking stuff, as long as they fix it again.  That last bit does not seem to be reliably happening.

I thought we were doomed when they announced the Window 10 was the last version and will only be updated.

“Window10” is just a name.  Apparently “10x” is within that boundary.  Apple has been on “OSX” for many years now and the latest is wildly different from the first.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Finding out may be a step.  Was there a period between the first problem and the second problem where things worked fine or does this seem to be a result of solving the first problem and things didn’t ever get back right?

it happened after the first problem and i did do a windows update but it happened before the update. there is also a glitched out performance graph on my screen that is really annoying.

Did not answer the question one way or the other.  After the first problem there was a period of normalcy or not?  Glitches out performance graph possibly non topical and part of some other app that is not named.  If there was a problem before the update the update did not cause the problem.

It happened before the update but i will try to reinstall gpu drivers since that might cause a problem because the last time i installed the new game ready driver it didnt really go so smooth.
