Hello, I'm fairly new to this and I'm attempting to OC (Overclock) my intel i5 4690k that's in a AsRock h97 Anniversary Motherboard. I've done some reading and noticed how most people say it can't really be done or its complicated. I was messing around in Bios or EUFI, and I didnt save anything because I was just looking. But there are a lot of things in it that say aids in overclocking and and unlocking more performance with the CPU.I'm noticing all the override modes, I didnt leave them in that, it was in auo before, and there was stuff it recommended disabling to increase performance. Just looking for any help on what I should adjust things to, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

There's probably plenty of guide you can find on youtube for overclocking cpu.  I've never done it myself as I don't have a K processor.

As far as I know, only Z series motherboard allow for overclocking cpu so in theory you should not be able to do so, but I could be wrong and someone else would correct me.

  • 1 month later...

i have an Asrock H97 Fatality performance, overclocking was removed in BIOS 2.40 and upwards (currently it's up to 2.60a)

reverting to 2.30 adds them back in, and i successfully OC'd my 4790k at 4.8 on air.

only excessive heat and voltage will damage a cpu, so experiment with the aid of online guides, 1.3v and below is safe - the cpu only draws what it needs.

a constant 1.25-1.3 should be safe - H97 will not turbo in overclocked mode (Z97 will), it will be a constant voltage and set speed (in my case 4.8ghz)

i later reverted back to latest bios (2.60a) as i realised my GTX 1070 is a bottleneck and the extra cpu power (4.0 to 4.4 Turbo --> 4.8) didn't make enough difference.

a GTX1080ti or RTX2070+ would benefit however...

all the best.
