So I have a msi z97gaming 5 which seems to only support ddr3 I only have 2x4gb sticks of 1600mhz ddr g.skill do I get 2 more sticks or maybe shoot for new mbo ? (Also first time on forum be gentle)

I5 4690k and 1060 6gb so I do notice ram pretty maxed on the usage.

If you need more RAM, upgrade the RAM. If you need more CPU performance and more RAM, upgrade to Ryzen.

I agree, another 2x 4gb ddr3 1600 should be pretty cheap.  Try to find the same ram as you already have if you can.  Upgrading to ryzen is a little bit more expensive as you'll have to get cpu, motherboard and ram but it's worth it if you can afford it.  Honestly it only depend on what you're doing with the system and if it's performances are good or not with your use of it.
