So.. I need some help. I'm looking to upgrade my pc after 8 years, and I would appreciate any input. I used to be big into pc hardware and gaming 15-20 years ago, but I'm completely clueless on what would give me the best bang for my buck these days. Currently running an i5-3570k, 8gb ram, 1gb gtx 650, gigabyte ga-z77-d3h, and a sata intel 540 ssd.

I don't do any gaming, or cpu intensive things like video editing. I'm not really interested in overclocking, I'd just like a cpu and motherboard I can assemble and be pretty much good to go without any tweaks. Bios updates and simple settings are no problems, but I don't want to mess with clock frequencies or anything..

I'm looking to spend $100-$200 on a cpu, and probably no more than $100 on a motherboard. Since I don't do any gaming or cpu intensive things, I don't really think I need an aftermarket cooler. I wouldn't be against spending up to $30 or so on a cpu cooler though. (Looks like that won't buy me much these days, but I do see the cooler master 212 evo for $35) if it makes a significant difference. I'm using and old gtx 650 graphics card, so I don't know if the onboard gpu's these days will blow that thing out of the water or what.. I'll need new memory too, so suggestions there would be cool too. I have an old antec p180 case I'm currently using, and a thermaltake toughpower supply that I think is 700w. Not really looking to change those at the moment. Edit: I'm using a coolermaster cpu cooler that looks exactly like the evo 212, it's probably not compatible with the new cpu's after 8 years? Trying to find the exact model of it right now.

I feel a little lazy asking for help like this, and to be honest that's how I feel right now. I will do a little research on my own after posting this, but thought I'd throw this out there anyway.. TIA

3rd gen ryzen is pretty good. it can be oc'd but it doesnt bring much more performance. Just enable precision boost overdrive in bios. its pretty much auto overclocking without you doing anything.
