Best linux compatible network card?

TL;DR:
Best wireless WiFi compatible network card compatible with linux?
PCI/PCIE is acceptable.

Long:
My computer is not placed in ethernet proximity of the Router :(
I need to run on WiFi.
I want to convert to the Linux side.
My current WiFi adaptor is not only a crappy USB one, but it;s old & has problems on windows. Also it doesn't work on Linux.

I don't want to have to do weird driver wrappers & complicated stuff. I want to plug it in, type in the wifi password & have internet.

We have 5G wifi
and 2.4G wifi. I use the 5G.
I have looked at a bunch of lists of "best linux wifi adaptors" but they all list old ones from like 2013 & they're all USB. Has WiFi technology really been the same for the past 10~ years? Anyone have suspicions of vast improvement soon like how everone knew Ryzen was a new CPU by AMD that'd change the game?

For price points, I guess, $20, $50 $100 US.

I naturally want to spend as little as possible, but if there's no noticible gain then it's not worth going to higher price points.

I am considering PCI/PCIE because it frees up some of my USB ports. But honestly, anything that is good.

No, it's jsut that nobody bothers updating these lists... the people who are likely to do so it are happy to run 10 year old stuff until it breaks so it's rare someone gets new stuff and add it. They're the opposite of wanting the latest and greatest so everything that's on there often ends up long discontinued.
