I am planning in switching a dell optiplex 790 out of the case and putting the MoBo into a mid atx case will that be possible? I know that the front panel connectors are non-standard, eventually I'll have to look the pinout, but I just need to see if it will be possible. PS. this is the motherboard

Its BTX and the Mounting Holes as well as the Front and Rear Panel connections, plus thermal sensors, Front USB/AUDIO are Proprietary.

Micro BTX (Balanced Technology Extended) - This layout was designed mainly around "balanced" cooling solution with the orientation of the case.

Many times, Dell and HP would mount proprietary blower style fans with ductwork only for the case it was designed for and also the motherboard layout, BTX.

Your ATX case however, may have the hole orientation for the standoffs in the BTX configuration. Something to look at if you're purchasing a case, also the one you have laying around if that's what you're going to use.
