So here are my desktop specs (upgraded ASUS prebuilt over the years):

  • i3-4170
  • GTX 1050ti
  • 500W Power Supply
  • 250GB SSD
  • 1TB HDD
  • 35" 1440p ultra wide monitor

I have been running into issues with my mouse occasionally stuttering while I drag it from side to side and my screen flashes black for 2 seconds sometimes, especially when I bump my desk. It is not the mouse or USB ports that are the issue, I've tested multiple of each. I bought the 1050ti a year or two ago refurbished but it works great except I am starting to suspect there is a CPU bottleneck that could be causing these issues. I took out the GPU to see if the issues disappeared and they did (expect the graphics were garbage because of the old iGPU).

Does this sound like a bottleneck to you guys or just signs of a dying GPU?

If it is a CPU bottleneck, what would be the cheapest way to improve it? Should I just buy a new Ryzen motherboard / CPU combo?

Thanks!

I would first try DDU. if the mouse is skipping and you are getting black screens, its pretty probable its a driver issue. re-install it with DDU and that might fox your problem.

I'll check it out. After I uninstall should I just re download the latest Geforce drivers?
