The coil whine heard in this video is likely caused by the GPU rendering at huge FPS.
You can tell since the tone changes depending where he looks (how demanding the render is).

A simple fix is to use a tool like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision to limit the FPS in games.
(2X monitor refresh rate) +1 is recommended e.g. (60x2)+1 = 121

I always keep V-Sync turned on in games. After all, an LCD screen can't output more frames than its "refresh rate". This prevents screen tearing and keeps the video card usage to a "needed" level, instead of "all-it-can".

Of course my reasoning only applies to LCD screens and games :)

My Gigabyte GTX560ti Coil whines with my fps at my monitors refresh rate. It however only coil whines when in low or medium usage between 30-55% or when under full load running something like furmark. The coil whine is actually more audible than my H100 stock fans at full rpm.

My Mobile Devices: HTC Dream (G1) Rooted, HTC Bravo (Desire) Rooted, Samsung Galaxy SII Rooted, Samsung Galaxy Note II Rooted, iPhone 4s Jailbroken, iPad 2 Jailbroken

V-Sync introduces large amount of input lag compared to limiting FPS.

I have never actually experienced coil whine. But I have to agree that limiting fps to a high number is better than vsync. In games like CS:S the games feels different at 60fps than it does at 300fps. Even though the monitor can only output at 60Hz. You should try it yourself at a game you CAN get high fps in.

While the monitor can't output more frames than the refresh rate, if a second frame is created inbetween the time of refreshes, you can get a snappier feel because you're getting that more recent frame. That said, might not be worth the extra power and whine if your card is prone to it.
