What happens if you enable XMP for the RAM, and then after manually overclock your CPU, step by step?

Also, usually these automatic overclocks use way too much voltage. But maybe your chip needs a big amount of voltage, to stay stable (no crashes).

When you overclock without MSI OC, do you change Vcore?

First of all, don't say sorry because you're a "noob" - we all start somewhere 🙂

Right. Since you've changed what I'd call BIOS settings via softwares from Windows, I'd reset the BIOS from the BIOS and start over (load default settings etc).
Then after reset of BIOS, I would only enable XMP. Now I would start Windows. If it boots without problems, great! Now check RAM via fx HWiNFO to see if the right speeds and timings are set from the XMP profile. If everything looks as it should, then great.

Now, I'd research what other people are using for Vcore when overclocking using the CPU you have. Lets say it's 1.30v, then I'd put that in the Vcore in BIOS and after set it to the desired clockspeed you want. If it crashes while during a test, fx Cinebench (I would recommend Realbench to test stability properly), increase the Vcore with 0.10 until it doesn't crash anymore. And when it doesn't crash anymore, try lower the Vcore with 0.05v.

I think you will find the "Vcore" setting in the "OC" menu, then under "Voltage Setting" you will find "CPU Core Voltage" which should be on Auto - and it might show a current voltage to left of "Auto". Maybe something like 1.060-ish volt.

If nothing works, you should check what updates you have for your BIOS. Maybe you're running on a old unstable version.

Oh yeah btw, remember to monitor your CPU temps while trying to overclock and so on. Too much Vcore and the temps go through the roof. 🙂

i did not figured out how to change that but when i am able to change  cpu speed  it only goes  below 0  not up

is that normal

yeah that was my plan to make an usb stick with all the bios  for my mobo

but after a while i delete my usb stick so when i think i wont need it anymore amd bam just week later or that some day  pc crash at startup

Well, you shouldn't touch anything other than enabling XMP, setting a manuel fixed Vcore and then make sure to have AVX offset is set to 0. Leave everything else as it is.

And I not sure what you mean by CPU speed only goes below 0 and not up.

Luckily you can easy make a new USB with a new BIOS.

I'm still not sure exactly what you're talking about but it sounds like you know what to do and what not to do...

And, AVX offset is kinda unnecessary for gaming but it's important to have on 0 if you want to use your overclock fully while under an AVX workload.

If a program or videogame supports AVX, it can utilize your CPU 100% (another form of CPU calculations will be done), which will cause higher temps and so on - and the smallest instability from an overclock, will most likely crash your system under an AVX workload. What AVX offset does it to lower your CPU clockspeeds under AVX workloads, so your CPU outputs less heat = more stable. So lets say your CPU overclock is set to 4.5GHz with an AVX offset set to -2, under AVX workloads, your CPU will only clock to 4.3GHz instead of the 4.5GHz you have set.

IMO, I would always only make an overclock that is also stable on AVX workloads and not only on "traditional" workloads, like normal gaming or normal use of everyday programs. This way you know your CPU is truly stable with your custom overclock.

Hope it all makes sense. I'm trying my best to explain. If anyone else on this forum sees this and knows something important I have not mentioned, please do! I'm also learning 🙂

Oh also - I'm not sure where exactly you can find the AVX settings in your BIOS. I have an ASUS motherboard and that has a different BIOS menu(s), compared to MSI's.

But I think you will find it under something called "CPU Setting", which might be under "Overclocking". The AVX setting itself might be called "CPU Ratio Offset When Running AVX".

Still, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by some settings you cannot set upwards. Are you talking about the AVX Offset?

I just found this:

You cannot overclock the CPU you have anymore.

So there's no reason to continue trying to make this work. It's not really possible anymore it seems - well not without doing what is explained in Update, Update 2 and Update 3 in the Reddit post. Maybe you wanna try that? If not, leave everything default in the BIOS, though remember to use XMP to have your RAM running with the correct settings.
