Thinking about building a PC

Hi, I’m trying to figure out whether it would be worth it to build a PC or just buy a prebuilt one.

Right now I have a dell optiplex 780 with dual screen monitors. I don’t game too much, but I am a computer science student, so I do use a good amount of processing power.

if I do build a gaming PC, then I might start gaming more, but right now, my computer doesn’t really game very well, as it’s pretty old.

I want whatever option I choose to also work great for my classes and projects for computer science.

im trying to decide whether to build a pc or just upgrade to a newer optiplex.

my budget is around 300-500 dollars.

if anyone can provide suggestions or recommendations, that would be great!

Build your own. It last longer, will be probably quieter (if you use good cooler and PSU), you can buy parts good for expansion (like better PSU for future upgrade) etc.
