Getting to 2560 x 1600 with an HP LP3065

I've had my LP3065 for probably 8+ years now, and it has been an amazing monitor.  I've been on a couple of Lenovo laptops (W540 latest) and I connect to the monitor using the docking station, display port output and the Accell dual link adapter https://www.accellww.com/products/ultraav-displayport-to-dvi-d-dual-link-adapter.  this drives 2560x1600 beautifully on the old Nvidia graphics card albeit slow these days.

so after 4+ years of using the lenovo W540, I decided to get a solid gaming laptop, the ASUS ROG G531 with the GTX 1650 card.  it has an HDMI 2.0 out.  so to bridge the gap, I bought this:  https://www.newegg.com/p/0V5-01DS-00005?Item=0V5-01DS-00005.  the tripplite hdmi to display port is USB powered, and it says it can handle resolutions up to 4096 x 2160, so I figured I could put it between the laptop and the accell adapter.  Signal is getting to the monitor, but the best resolution is 1/2 - 1280 x 800.  let me know if you have any thoughts on this.  I appreciate any expertise and insight!

 

I think I can output video through the USB 3.0 ports as well?

I'd bet on the adapter being lower rated than it says.

I think your laptop comes with a USB-C port with Display Port output, I'd buy a much cheaper USB-C to DP (Female) adapter

Stacking multiple active adapters is really just asking for trouble, I'm surprised you're able to get a signal at all.

 

If your laptop really only has HDMI output, there's probably not much you can do. If you have a thunderbolt or a USB-C port with video output, you can use a USB-C to Dual-Link DVI adapter.
