He has a good enough psu. Of course the system will shut down if you plug the cables when the system is on.

The problem he has: cannot plug in the cpu cable without system turning of.   OFC it will turn off, so problem solved. hopefully

So I just order everything for my new build, and anytime I plug in my cpu cable from my psu my system turns off. Now my new motherboard has a 12 pin but I only have a 8 pin. I am not going to overclock so I wouldn’t need the extra 4 pin. My psu is a little old but it should still have enough power to use with this build anyone have any ideas.

Well If you were buying a new psu i would chose an 850w maybe for some headroom but it looks like that power supply you have should be able to run it fine.

Could you explain in a bit more detail on what the issue is with your system powering off?

So when I plug in my cpu cable to my motherboard my whole system shuts down. I did it one time with my system on, to see if it was a short circuit somewhere but it wasn’t. If I turn my system on without the cpu cable in, it will turn on but right when I plug it in it shuts off, should I get a new psu.

Are any of your parts overclocked?

And sorry this is my real first build alone sorry I don’t know these things

shut down your pc and then the psu.

Then plug the cables. its a miracle that you did not break your pc or hurt yourself by doing that.

Do you also take your bread out of the toaster with a fork?

plugging the cables in while running wont damage your system but usually not recomended

it can shorten your motherboard meaning that your destroyed your pc.

Also op, have your watched any videos about building your own pc?

Make sure all the cables are completely in and maybe try disconnecting and reconnecting them (with the power off). You may have a faulty psu or motherboard but I wouldnt replace anything until you have troubleshooted everything.
