Need help figuring out a new PC

First off, I'm new and been sorta perusing through the forums, for some reason I don't find it helpful reading other people builds or issues unless it's a problem I directly have (if that makes any sense). If this ends up being long, then whoops.

 

Back in 2017 I got a gaming laptop, an Acer Predator 15 G9-593, because it's easier to move around with and can play pretty much whatever I need it to without too much issue. Whatever horrible build I'm going to make won't happen for about another year, I'm military and should be deploying soon if this virus crap doesn't outright cancel it, so I'm saving that cash for when I get back.

Honestly, this list is a pretty rough idea on what I'm trying to get. I don't intend to do this project alone since I'll be taking leave back home where I'll build it with my dad since he's basically the master tech guru of the house. I'm trying to keep the budget at $3000 which is probably more than enough for what I'd like to accomplish. Things like monitors, keyboards, etc are not at the top of my concerns right now, my dad has tons of keyboards and monitors back home, I'm just trying to get the meat and potatoes here. 

 

One thing I'm struggling with is motherboards, CPUs, and cases. I know CPUs have to be compatible and all, and motherboard stuff is slightly confusing to me in terms of specs and what'd be good for gaming. Cases are just odd all together, need some thing sturdy with space to do stuff with. I'm trying to avoid pre-built computers if I can, so any help in fixing this list or suggesting better options would be appreciated. I'm also asking my dad about stuff to get his insight.
