5.0Ghz Locked

My i7 7700K is locked (seems like) at 5.0GHz it's been overclocked since the build was done. However I turn my AVX to 0 in bios today. Now CPU s=is running 5.0GHZ constant never running below that when idle such as now on desktop. Is this normal?

I have power options at high performance but CPU settings at the balanced options.

Turn on C states in your bios, should be additional CPU options or a very similar tag line to that.

Also make sure EIST (Intel SpeedStep) is enabled.

These options (Combined with Windows in "Balanced" mode) will allow the CPU to downclock when idle.

I turned on C states was set to auto it dropped down another "C1" option, enabled it as well.

Windows "Balanced" mode will allow your system to downclock, while High Performance will not. The system will still perform when required. Try a render benchmark to find out.

It did 65c max temp at 5ghz render,like normal again. Thank you both!
