Hi folks, first of all I'll describe my PC specs.

Asus Strix H270I Gaming

Intel i5 7500

16GB Corsair memory

GTX 1060 6GB

I built the machine a few years ago and have always had this fault. Whenever I switch the machine on from cold, it sort of half boots, the power light comes on and the system seems to hang, there is no HDD activity light. If I give it 15 seconds or so, and press the reset button, the machine boots perfectly.

I have recently installed a new boot drive, which of course has had no effect on the issue. I also previously tried connecting a spare PSU up to the machine, and it exhibited the same behaviour.

Are there any settings I can tweak in the BIOS perhaps or any other suggestions I could use to help with the issue.

Thanks in advance!

Never... How do I do that?

Oh my...

This is not something to be done lightly, if you screw it up, you can brick (render inoperable) your mobo.

So be careful.

Step (1) Visit the mobo manufacturer's website

Step (2) Find your mobo *specifically*

Step (3) Go tot the driver's section, and find the latest BIOS update file.

Step (4) Read *very carefully* how to update the BIOS. It's not a universal process so I can't tell you what to expect.

Step (5) Follow instructions *to the letter*

Step (6) Hopefully it solves the issue.

Warning, if you are all uncomfortable doing this, then take it to a professional. I am not responsible for bricking your system.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

There could be a simple explanation. Your PC goes into hibernation or standby. Some motherboards have difficulties waking up from that. Also disable windows "fast startup" options. I had similar issues with those windows gimmicks. When enabled by default, windows would not completely shut down but dump memory onto you drive and then recover it on the next boot. If for some reason it cannot do that it will simply hang. For me disabling that thing fixed some windows update issues as well as your mentioned issues. Now my system does a cold boot every time. So it takes a bit longer to boot but on an SSD it really does not matter.
