Hey guy's,

Long time follower of the channel, first time posting in the forum.

I have a question that I've done some research on and can't find a solid answer. I've also asked around with a couple windows savy friends and they don't have an answer either.

Here's my Dilemma;

I'm in the process of upgrading storage. I have a 2 TB sshd (segate) that's almost full that everything is saved on. My system is Haswell-E, ASRock X99 board, Intel 5820k, 32gb crucial ram, MSI GTX 970. I want to refresh the system by installing an m.2 SSD for my OS, and use a hard drive to store all my games and files. My biggest concern right now is where my games are saved.

I remember trying to transfer GTA 5 save data a few years back from my home theater PC, to my build, and steam didn't read the files when I transferred them to the program data folder.

I have games on steam, Battle.net (modern warefare 2019), Forza horizon 3, origin, and want to keep my saved game data and I don't know if it's on the cloud, on saved in my program files.

One friend suggested using Norton ghost to back up my files bit by bit, but I am unsure about using it for game files.

What are you guys' suggestions?

Thanks!

Games save data usually under the C:\Users\Username

But different games have different approach, it might be under the game folders.

You can use smaller M.2 SSD and still retain the save data, by doing:

- Fresh install windows in the SSD

- Create THE SAME USERNAME as previous windows.

- After completed, copy all your user data to the users folder.

- If done properly the game should load the same save folder.

Don't change anything on the old HDD, keep all the files / windows folder intact, incase of the new system failed, you can use the old hdd to boot and redo the install.
