I am sort of thinking of getting one? mainly because when I watch TV (films) in the dark I get this horrible glare off it

Like line Lights blasting out from the TV. . . I'm not even sure if anyone else gets this as I've never asked?. . . my backlight for the TV is low (4 out of 20). . . Picture is calibrated good, but every now and then I have this urge to buy a gadget I don't really need, and I think a projector is the next obvious stage. . . Only thing is I want to keep my blu ray player, I assume I can a cable to it? but I've heard that HDMI cables longer than 2m aren't a good idea?

HDMI's carry a digital signal so the length of the cable shouldn't cause any issues.

PS. I think I have a 30ft cable to my projector downstairs, I forget. Also, if you are thinking about going with a projector, then its time to invest in a sound system if you don't already have one.

I have one yes, but its a cinema in a box (I know, I know, it'll suffice for now haha) but hence wanting to keep using my current BD player.

I have projector and to be rather honest I would much rather look at a 60 inch tv rather than a projector.

A TV's picture will beat a projectors because your seeing reflected light from a wall with the projector.

With a projector you'll need to invest in a screen or find a wall you can paint with special paint.

Plasma screens have less glare I imagine since blacks are actually black.

I wanted a projector last year, but being a student and not willing to pay a couple of thousand dollars for one I ended up building my own. Building a projector isn't too difficult the hardest part is finding some of the rare parts. It cost me around $200 for the whole thing. The image quality is pretty good, probably not as good as a commercial Epson but it didn't cost near as much. And like most of us on this forum, I love building things myself! Instructables.com, provided heaps of information and then I designed my own and built it.

I agree, you only need to add a powered repeater after about a 50 ft length depending on the make and purpose of use.

and that point you re better off with cat5-hdmi adapters, running only cat5 in the walls

HDMI shouldn't be an issue. My friend has a Epson DLP projector and as long as it's pitch black the contrast ratio is quite good but I think he said he paid over $400 for the screen. It's great for a hobby and you got the money to spend and it's a whole level of immersion to be looking at 111" of game space. Cost is the main issue as the bulbs burn out after 2,000 hours on a good day.
