Worth the upgrade?

Go to solution Solved by Fasauceome,

Why not just upgrade the GPU itself? The difference between the 9400F and 8400 is only a small clock speed increase, instead you could buy a 1660 super or even a 2060. Maybe throw some money towards faster ram, if you stuck with something basic like 2133 or 2400.

I currently have an Intel i5-8400 with a GTX 1060 6GB. I am planning to upgrade both CPU and GPU to something like an Intel i5-9400f and GTX 1660.

Is this worth the upgrade? Will I see any noticeable performance increase?

When the son of the deposed king of Nigeria emails you directly, asking for help, you help! His father ran the freaking country! Ok?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

My RAM is currently 2666 MHz, is an upgrade to 3000 or higher worth it?

Probably will just stick to upgrading GPU only then.

Alright, thanks!

The 1660 Super and RTX 2060 have a price difference of ~$100 for me, is it worth it to get the 2060?

Depends, what's your performance target, and what games do you play?

Would like to future proof it as much as possible. Current games I play are Modern Warfare, World of Warcraft, and CS:GO. Don't think I'll be getting into VR as they tend to give me a headache.

The 1660 super is excellent value, I suggest you stick with it. Tuck some money away for a core i7 later down the line.
