Ok , I have a wd passport 2,5 inch portable drive, i use it quite heavely and its almost full 750GB (drive is 1TB) and it never failed on me

but since the data on it is rather important to me (yes 750gb of important stuff un-backupped)I knew that i had to make a backup asap but it took a while before i had the extra cash to buy a decent backup disk (had 6 internal hgst drives fail on me) so finally after i year i had the money to buy an identical one. the original one never failed on me but i hadn used it for 2 months since i just moved to a new place, it still does not make any weird noises or anyhing and i can read the most recent stuff (the stuff im still working on) without  any problems, its not slow in loading.

here is the problem when backupping the drive on my main pc it copies about 300MB and then the transfer drops to 0kbps, and remains that way, this is win 10, but mostly the same thing on Linux (gentoo), even when using dd its only making it to 700MB** (#dd if=/dev/sdh1 bs=4096 | pv -s 931G | dd bs=4096 of=/dev/sdi1)

so i also tied clonezilla  and last but not least testdisk(the forenzic tool) also wont get any further but same story, so tried it on my laptop also with win10 and with linux (manjaro in this case)

weird thing is this dont ask me why exactly i tried it ,probably pure desperation, i attached it to my 2017shield tv and tried to copy it with Xplore, i have a 64GB usbstick in the othe usb port and its formatted as internal storage for the sheild so it kind of needs to be plugged in to the shield in order for the shield to work. so i cant use the port to connect the new drive to it. but the shield had no porblems copieng the ifrst 24 GB off files  the disk  after wich the internal storage (includes the stick) is full.

i kind of dont want to copy the drive in 24gb batches , having to jungle the disks every time to make space on the shield , resulting in far more work but mostly disk spinups and powerout cycles wear on the usbports reducing the chance of succeeding every time . i could try to copy it over wifi but the connection drops out to often to comfortably trust that. and unfortunatly the drive is a wd passport with a micro usb3 connection (so its soldered onto the pcb on the inside and the drive itself has no sata connector like other portable usb drives)

anybody an idea on howto copy the contens of the first disk to the second that is beter than the wifi or disk switching options?

or anybody a f***ing clue why my laptop and destop cant read the disk but the shield of all things has no problem with it? i might get my

hads on a raspberry pi 4 to test that one, but when that is going to be is really uncertain due to the corona lockdown in my country. iad the disk isnt gonna get better in the mean while i suppose.

*mostly my tracks , stemms selfmade samples, ,my self build maxdevices, synthsettings , presets albeton and fl-pojects allong with my vst folders (i have juncion links in there original place and moved them to the drive, my artwork that go with the tracks logo

ps sorry for all the typos im using a keyboard with rubber domes atm.

**i figure dd copies more before stalling because its able to copy the fist part of a larger file while the other stall when trying to read the file)
