My front microphone jack isn't working properly, I'm using the Razer Kraken Pro headset and the headphones are working fine in the front jack. However when I use the microphone it will not pick up sound when it's plugged into the front. It will only pick up sound if I put the microphone right to my lips, and then I sound like Optimus Prime talking on a car phone.

So I`m not sure what`s going on, do I need to check some cables for the motherboard?

I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me, thanks in advance.

Edit: I think it would be smart to mention that the front audio and microphone jacks have worked before. However recently my Tritton Kunai headset has stopped working for no reason too. It could be irrelevant given that the Tritton Kunai headset uses one cable that connects to a splitter that allows it to work with a USB connector for both audio and microphone. However I thought maybe I should mention this.

I was thinking of doing that but if the front audio jack doesn't work then that kind of bothers me. I know I could use the back ones but is there anything I can do?

if you are getting interference.

  • did already check for loose wires?
  • try the back see if you get the same problem
  • you could turn up your gain in control panel, under sound, then recording
  • try a different mic

1. Check

2. Check (it works in the back)

3. Check (doesn't work)

4. Can't try another mic, I don't own another one.

I guess I should start looking at standalone mics eh? Any suggestions?

I'm not using a sound card as far as I know. My motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H  is that relevant though?

Jep. Now I know you are using a Realtake "sound card"

 I had the same problem...

Do you have the realtke driver installed?

Start it up whan you plu your microphone in. It should now ask for wich plug should be set as the deafuld mic-in

Yeah I select mic in, and no I have not installed the realtek drivers. Should I do this from the website? Realtek high definition audio is working on my PC though it's just as far as the mic it doesn't work on the front jack. It will work in the back though.
