Hey everyone, just recently finished a 2700X build. At first everything seemed fine until I noticed a temp of 90 in hwmonitor. I took my cooler off and replaced the stock thermal paste with new and reinstalled. Went to run cinebench and didn’t last a second before it complete shut off. Well, noticed I didn’t have my cooler tight enough so that fixed the problem for a few days but now if I run cinebench my temps shoot back up, I’m talking 95 degrees and higher. I just can’t put my finger on the problem. It’s a new system. Here is the build.

ryzen 2700X

Wraith prism cooler

msi B450 tomahawk

GeForce GTX 1060 sc
Thermaltake Versa N27 case (with front clear plastic removed for better air to from fans).

I would check what your voltages are running at first by entering the bios. The voltage should be below 1.4v. If that fails try to down click the frequency and then look into it further in hw monitor.

Well HW monitor shows an idle temp for 42 - 47. I’m looking at going water cooling soon. It’s just weird how I can play games fine. Even aoe2 de with 8 players and 300 people on each team on a huge map and be fine. Or run 4 applications at the same time but as soon as I try to render something like cinebench it just instantly climbs temp and doesn’t stop.

My 2700X with a .100 volt under volt hits 85C on the Wraith Prism cooler like you have. Hitting higher temps with everything just on auto is pretty normal. As long as you're not dropping clocks and thermally throttling it's not a huge deal for short periods of time. I would consider getting some under volt going until you can get a better cooler or turn off XFR to lower the self boosting. Under the Prism with the under volt I was seeing 4.0 to 4.1 range bouncing around between the best cores under full load at 85c.
