So I replaced my GTX 1080 with an RTX 2080 today and everything seemed to be perfectly fine for around 6 hours. Then, randomly, my computer just shut off. It doesn't turn off all the lights and fans, but my monitors go to no signal. I have to turn off the computer and turn it on again to get it back up and running. I thought maybe it was just a weird glitch, but then it happened again. Once again, completely random. No taxing processes running such as a game. I realized that I hadn't installed the Game Ready Drivers yet, so I started installing them, but the computer kept shutting off before I could install the drivers. I turn off and on the computer again and this time I monitor my GPU temperature before it happens. Its going at a smooth 55 degrees or so. It doesn't seem to be a temperature problem, nor could I imagine it taking up too much power, since i have an 850 watt power supply, and I have used this GPU on another computer with a 600 something watt power supply and it worked fine. BTW, I tried switching back to the 1080 and it was working fine. Confident that this was GPU related, I switched back to the 2080 and tried disabling and re enabling the device in device manager, and then I was successfully able to install the Game Ready Drivers. I thought I had solved the issue, but then an hour later it starts happening again. I went into device manager and uninstalled the 2080, which is why I am able to type this right now (The computer isn't shutting down)

Any ideas of what's going on / how to fix this issue?

Thanks

Did you already try reinstalling windows 10?

There could always be some random short or something on the GPU.

Could also check your event viewer to see what the issue might be.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I tried to reinstall windows 10 and it said something like "There was a problem resetting your PC" and sent me back to the desktop. I tried it a couple times to the same result. Event viewer is reporting Kernel-Power critical errors, not sure what to do with that info

no like wipe your hard drive and totally reinstall it, you can make a usb with the windows media creator.

Ok I know it's been a while but I had some time to reinstall windows completely with the windows media creator using a USB. Issue is still occurring. The computer randomly restarted right after installing Nvidia drivers. I was using my gtx 1080 in this computer with no issues, as before. The RTX 2080 works completely fine with another computer. I reinstalled windows and put the 2080 into this computer (The one where the crashes are occurring) and it starts happening. It seems like it's not an issue with the GPU, since it works fine with another computer. Also doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with any components in this computer, since it works just fine with the 1080. For some reason this 2080 just won't work with this computer.

Is the motherboard bios up to date? Can't think of much else.
