Doom 2016 is lagging @1440p

Niklos

Hello Every one.

I nevered played Doom with my new PC and I figured out it was a great time to redo it. Right before Eternal comes out.

Unfortunatly, I have some issue with it.

If I play at 1920x1080 + OpenGL => I get 144 FPS. Everything is fine.
2540x1440 + OpenGL => I am stuck @60FPS. And the game is not as responsive as when I was playing @1080p
2540x1440 + Vulkan => The game is stuck @144 FPS, which seems normal but it just unplayable. I feel like there is a lot of input lag for some reason. The game is telling me it is playing at 144fps all the time but it definitly does not feel like it.

Those 3 tests were done with VSync On.

Anyone ever had that problem before ? It is really really wierd. The game is telling me it is being played at 1440p@144FPS and yet, it is not playable. I feel like I am a beginner or something while every thing is fine @1080p.

Thanks everyone.

This is most likely cpu frame times being very high. What are you specs?

Either @piratemonkey or quote me when responding to me. I won't see otherwise

Yes. It was up to date 1 month ago. Don't know if they released a new BIOS since then.

How about updated GPU drivers? I believe Nvidia cards require special Vulkan drivers to work properly. BIOS should be fine, as it's not an early x570 revision

So checked the BIOS version on Asrock Web site. I have either the last one or the one before (I don't have that computer with me right now). It is not an older version for sure.

I updated NVidia's drivers this week. So, they are up to date for sure.

But, I don't know about the Vulkan driver. I need to double check that !

If the updated Vulkan drivers don't work, I would suggest tightening memory timings, and maybe trying to run the infinity fabric and memory 1:1 (1800mhz memory, 1800mhz infinity fabric). Memory on 3rd Gen ryzen is very important to get right

It should. Are you using HDMI or display port

That would make a difference at 144hz. I would make sure Vulkan drivers are working, and I would reinstall Nvidia control panel and drivers is that doesn't work

@piratemonkey So I tryed to download latest Vulkan drivers and.... It gives me a link to NVidia's driver which I did not have the latest as NVidia released some new drivers today. I am going to try with those.

I don't have the latest BIOS but the previous one. According to Asrock, the lastest BIOS give me "Support individual SATA port control". Does not seem to be somthing I need for my FPS problem.

My guess is that it's your Ryzen 7 CPU. These high core count CPU's aren't great for gaming in most cases.

It could also be your mouse (if you set a 1000hz polling rate that does some weird stuff to Windows), but then you should experience it on 1080p as well.

Try disabling V-Sync in game, opening the Nvidia Control Panel, and enabling Fast Sync:

What-is-Nvidia-Fast-Sync-and-what-does-i

You'll need restart the game for it to take effect.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

Well... I installed NVidia latest driver and... Problem's gone... I can use Vulkan or OpenGL, I am playing at a rocking steady, 144FPS without any issue.

I check the CPU and it is chilling at 20% usage without any core at 100%.

Seems like problem solved... I don't really understand why as the game is old and nvidia's drivers must be great for that game for years so... does not makes sense to me, but it works which was the goal !

Thanks y'all !

It could've been a new game update possibly. Who knows. I'm glad to have helped
