Hi all! I clicked on my network on windows 10 to see what all devices where connected and was a bit confused to see a device named "Mustang" on the network. The manufacturer is Amazon, but there shouldn't be any amazon devices on the network. The device only shows up for about a minute or so and then I have to refresh the network page to see it again before it disappears. I can't go too in depth on blocking MAC addresses or anything because my ISP won't allow it's customers to log into their router (I could rant about this for days). They also are not open on the weekends, so I was going to see if anyone here could help. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Similar, but not the same

Basically, disable WPS, change your wifi password and change the "Windows Connect Now" service to Manual startup only.

You say you can't log in the router though, so.... How do you change wifi settings? Surely they didn't just give you a piece of paper with the wifi's SSID and password on it while telling you "that's all you get"... right? If so, I'd call them up and demand to have access to the router settings to setup your own wifi password and what not.

If they refuse and you want extra control over your network, you can always invest in your own router and only use the ISP's combo modem/router as just a modem.

I don't have the ability to change ANY settings myself, including wifi password. The only thing they gave me was the option to choose what my network is called and they taped the password to the top of the router. I'm calling them tomorrow and demanding access. If they don't give me access then I'll just get my own equipment and do it that way. I would switch ISPs if I had a choice, but there is literally not an alternative for me. Thank you for the reply and the helpful link.

🤦‍♂️

On one hand, I understand why they'd do that.

A) it's their hardware (if you didn't outright buy it from them).

B) It prevents people from messing with it and removes the ability to claim "well my network was unprotected so anybody could've downloaded that movie"...

But on the other hand, it's just terrible service and they should give you the option to at least change the password whenever you want.

Which ISP is this?

It's a small regional ISP. Franklin Telephone Company. The people that work at our branch are nice, but I hate the way the company operates in general.

14. How do I setup a change in username and/or password on my PC and/or modem?

Call your local Franklin Telephone support line at 601-384-3333 and select option 58.

So it sounds like it is possible to at least change the wifi password... But to have actual control and disabling things like WPS, I don't know.

Thank you so much for the help!
