Monitor limitations

MynameisProps

Hi, i'm currently looking for a monitor because my laptop's screen is too small and it is straining my eyes whenever i try to do video editing. But, i'm currently running into a problem, my custom laptop does not comes with a display port and the monitors i'm looking at is 2k 144hz monitors, sooooo i was thinking that if it is possible to bypass this limitation by using a usb type c to display port converter. Will this idea work,or the type-c connector(not thunderbolt or 3.1) can display video outputs (possibly 144hz 2k)? Or the hdmi on the laptop will do the job for me?(i know i might sound like an idiot but seriously,i'm not knowledgeable enough when it comes to displays)
