Hi Everyone,

Recently (at CES 2014), Dell unveiled their 'consumer priced' 4K display for under $1000 which equates to (where I am) £879 [= $1472] somehow. The main question which I thought you could help me with is: is it worth it? I game quite a lot and so frame rate is quite important but I also don't have a huge budget to spend (sadly) and so for that price tag, I'm not sure if the pixels are worth the price. If it's not worth it, would someone recommend a good for gaming, aesthetically pleasing, 27" not too expensive monitor (the only one I can think of [and may well buy] is the Asus MX279H.

Thanks a lot,

dells budget 4k monitor is 30fps max. Are you sure that fps, you can degrade it to 2560x1600 or 1080p if you wish but think long and hard, that is a lot of money.

Honestly the hardware for 4k Gaming at high frame rates just isn't there yet. I'd pick up a 1080p 144hz 27" BENQ XL2420z. (should be cheaper)

I think this is the issue. I think I can find other monitors that will deliver higher FPS at the same resolution, but for a lower price.

Thanks a lot,

Thanks for replying,

No - I don't actually. Is that needed for sure?

That's a little extreme, but yeah you need at last 2 top tier cards to get decent frame rates.

Can you? I know you can't with their $1400 4k monitor.

they cut corners with their cheap ones, its for people making videos and stuff, movies are at 24fps so its not like it matters, well until the industry gets its shit together and makes stuff at 48fps.
