I live in a rural area in Tucson Az and my only options for internet is through a WISP provider. The source tower is 1.40 miles away and I get my signal from a dish and a cambium pmp450. Cat7 to POE to my router, a TP link C4000, My question is there anything equipment wise or other ways to gain a better signal or grab more speed the pmp450 is uncapped I don't know how many subscribers they are providing net for. Ideally I would love to have a dedicated fiber to my house then create my own WISP but Fiber would be hella $$$ to have run.

In the USA Fiber might get cheaper.   There’s also the continuously improving nature of OTA internet.  Musk was talking about rafts of low flying micro satellites. There are a couple future possibilities.  Obama wanted to improve rural internet drastically but it was stopped. It cost money to subsidize cable laying.  We’ll see what happens after the election.

As far as antennas go you need send and recieve.  There are antennas more directional than dish.  The question is if the WISP operator will connect to them.  One of the issues with OTA internet is as freuencies het higher they have more trouble going through objects.  At the higher end it can be stopped by clouds or raindrops.

If the fiber run is really really long the option of DIY gets closer to viability.  The cable laying equipment is high intitial cost.  The machine used to be called a “ditch witch” which was a brand name.  That was many years ago though.  It basically cuts a slot in the ground, lays the cable, and fill in the hole.  One just moves it forward. They’re not very fast.  There’s connecting to the network too of course.  That would have to be worked out.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
