Weird GPU(?) artifact with some application

In some applications i get these weird stripes that seems to follow the geometry of the elements on screen. The stripes start out few but grow. It has been going on for a while. I have a gtx 970, is this the end of the line for my gpu? The weird part is that this only happens with some programs and it doesn't affect games.
