DELL Precision T3600 | Gaming Setup

Hello Everyone,

I am new here in this forum and I am looking for some help to turn this DELL Precision T3600 into a high end gaming PC.

Found this information but hard to know what latest hardware CPU & GPU can it be upgraded to.

I’ve also been reading the manual but it is all base on compatible hardware which I am looking to push this T3600 to its limit.

URL: https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dell_precision_workstation/precision-t3600_owner's manual_en-us.pdf

Has anyone tried to push the CPU pass this (Sandy Bridge E5-26xx series, LGA2011 :Intel® Xeon™ processors 4, 6, and 8 Core support Up to 130W)?

I’ve seen videos about users using a Nvidia 1080 but I am looking to install 2 GPUs instead of one and possibly in SLI mode, any clues what would be the best way?

Thank you all for any advice and support about this T3600 as I would rather do something with it than ending as trash.

Regards,

Elsa Ballerina

The website lists the E5-1660 as compatible, though oddly with the wrong turbo frequency (according to intel ark)

Either way, it appears the fastest CPU for this system is indeed that Xeon E5-1660 so if you want the best CPU performance that's probably what you'll need.

and hey, not even that expensive

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Hello Fasauceome,

Thank you for your reply and recommandations.

I saw this initial link URL1 that mentions about the Intel Chipset C600 in URL2. It seems the highest one would be the URL3 E5-2665.

URL1: https://www.dell.com/community/Precision-Fixed-Workstations/Dell-Precision-3600-CPU-Upgrade/td-p/6042691

URL2:

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/C602.html

URL3:

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Xeon/E5-2665.html

The E5-1660 seems the best but only 6 cores... I really wanted 8 cores. Any real game changer from 6 or 8 cores?

Any recommandations for Dual-SLI GPU’s?

Thanks a lot Fasauceome ?

About the GPU,

It seems the maximum GeForce GPU gaming card you can install is a Nvidia GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5.

They aren’t cheap and trying to get two of those on SLI mode on that T3600 motherboard... not sure where would I be able to get this SLI HB Bridge to connect them both far apart from each other.

Any clues in this?

Hello Everyone,

I can finally say that my system Dell Precision T3600 is finally completed.

  • Intel Xeon E5-2690 CPU | 1 Unit | Works perfectly
  • Samsung  16GB 2Rx4 PC3-14900R-13-12-E2-P3 | 4 Units | Works perfectly
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC2 8GB GDDR5X | 1 Unit | Works perfectly
  • Dell Precision 1K45H 635W Watt

In overall I can say that this Workstation is well balance and runs silently which is plus in my book.

The Controller Card has many RAID options but sadly no status updates while the OS is loaded.

(Only available while you boot your system via the POST screen)

Temporarily I only have two small size hard disk drive in RAID 0 connected to (HV52W Dell PE PERC H310 6Gb/s RAID Controller) until I can figure out how to boot and setup two M.2 NVMe SSD with the current raid controller or via another method.

I hope this information will help those that are planing anything with this model.

Hi Elsa,

Do you think that this set up would be good for VR/AR?

Hello Diane_K,

The system itself is well capable and I play The Division 2 at Ultra High resolution 1920x1080 without any problems. Without the GPU, nothing like this would have been possible and this card can handle VR but not sure about AR as it requires other digital enhancement devices.

The T3600 has Slot 4 and Slot 5 as PCI Express x16 which one has already the GPU.

I am waiting to get my hands on a M.2 RAID0 mode (main booter/Loader) compatible hardware to get the data performance at max.

I got the information about thie T3600 from here:

https://www.greenpcgamers.com/technology/make-my-precision-t3600-in-to-a-gaming-computer/

But for now, you can stick on getting a RAID0 set on that PERC H310 Controller Card.

I hope this information is useful but I could recommend that you search engine it so that you are satisfied with what you are looking for.
