So I have this nuclear bomb, pardon my pc...
And I wanted to overclock him, but without turning him into a real nuclear bomb.
He's old and I use it to play League of Legends, but since a while he's been using more of the processor and I don't know why...
The processor is old, but it's all I have here. If someone would help me overclock it stable I would be very grateful
Specs:

CPU: Amd Athlon(tm) II X2 245 2,90 Ghz (Dual-Core)

GPU: GT 710 2GB (Galaxy)

Ram: 4GB DDR2 (And that's the limit of the motherboard)

SO: Windows 10 PRO

Motherboard: MCP6P M2+

Yes it's really old, and before they talk (oh buy a new computer) I literally can't afford to buy a new one.

Socket AM3, you could buy a Phenom II x4, and then slap something like a GTX 660 ti in there.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

then I guess just use MSI afterburner to slap an OC on that GT 710

Actually, as far as possible, GT 710 is very responsive to me..
But the real problem here is the processor itself...
I don't want to run anything on the ultra, but I want to play at least 60 fps without dropping

Fps dropping from 80 to 20 and from 20 to 60 and from 60 to 30 is driving me crazy at matches
Besides the headache I get later if I limit it to 30 fps it gets really bad to play... since I need to have quick reactions playing LOL

I don't have experience overclocking an Athlon that old, and the Phenom X6 I did OC was in a crap motherboard. What board are you using? I'm pretty sure overclocking guides on YouTube would be very useful to you.

This guide could possibly help

Although judging by the appearance of the motherboard, it may not have a BIOS with many features.

Just give me that

Well since you've got a pretty basic menu, all you need to do is set the VID and CPU frequency. That chip isn't exactly an overclocker's playground so there's not really a wealth of examples out there, so you should experiment and see what you can get away with. Test with Aida64 to make sure your temperatures are below 75 (those old Athlons need to be kept pretty low compared to modern chips), and keep your voltage below 1.4.

I guess that's where my problem comes in...
The only voltage I can change is the memory ram.

If the CPU VID cannot change, then all you can hope for is to change the CPU Frequency at stock voltage. If it does not allow you to change CPU frequency, then unfortunately you have no options

Is Cpu vid the same thing as voltage ?

It's a mini benchmark before OC

I separated the two "mini benchmarks" into two videos where one the graphics are on "Very High" and the other on "Very Low".
Note: The GPU is without OC

I made some stuff to use swadowplay here... it'll be very useful...

but the fps are solidly on gpu and not on cpu since lol is low using cpu  and greedy on gpu demand so i would oc that 710 but still dont expect more than like 7-15 fps more and also ram would be nice to be oc'ed a bit cpu vid is not complety different to voltage but voltage refer to the power that the hole chip will get wereas cpu vid is for each core

I'll see what I can do here

Without any OC v

Was it a lot?
I tampered with values like CPU VID/ Chip vid/HT Voltage
And I overclocked the ram memory and increased it from 1,950v to 2,000v
I increased the FSB (I believe that's the name) from 1600 to 2000
But I didn't touch the processor clock itself.

Yes, the mainboard doesn't support more than 2gb per socket. That doesn't say it wouldn't work. If you can get a 4gb stick to test you may have luck, the memory-controller is within the cpu and it is able to adress 16gb for sure.

Then, the GT710 is a really slow graphics card, it may be your main bottleneck here and not so much the cpu. A simple R7 250 is significantly faster. The HD 7770/R7 250X is in itself a lot faster than the R7 250 and, if cheap, is a very worthwile upgrade for your system.

You have increased the HT (Hypertransport) speed, the result should be barely noticable. Even worse: It can decrease your stability. You should let 1600 untouched, maybe even go down to 1200 if your board allows it. You can increase the cpu fsb from 200 somewhat, since your PCIe-FSB is locked to 100mhz. But it might affect the ram-speed so you might need to clock the memory lower again. You might not need to increase the core-voltage if the oc is only 5-10%.

Will it help with games? I have my doubts.

Unfortunately, I saw having to hold on to that setup for now... I'm having serious financial problems. .-.

Then you might choose not to tamper around with OCing too much, you could break your system. Brazil has special prices for hardware, I know.

image.thumb.png.075fb0c0bf868ccec7d67faae95c0f05.pngApparently my OC from 2.92 to 3.04 was very successful!I'll increase it to the few and see how stable it gets

Now it's AIDA64 Turn

And also the motherboard won't let me do anything so dangerous.
she actually stops after the pre-post asking to change the clock in the bios.

Speaking of bios I updated her and it really made a big difference!

Thank you all! ^^

Feel free to ask for advice. Maybe you discover a cheap graphics card, +-$15 or so, we will help telling you if it's worth upgrading.
