Greetings. i have a query on GPU power vs resolution/ gameplay scenario that. Right now my system has Amd A10-7700K APU paired with R7250 2GB GPU. since i am using a 720P LCD panel with 1360*768 resolution, with full load my total System consumption is 230+- 10Watts. in this case my GPU also remains at 65C all that time. so i am planning to put a RX580 8gb to improve the GPU side of performance. still i am planning to play on 720P panel as this panel is not dying anytime soon on DVI interface. so i guess even if i play on 720P my GPU wont be stressed that much and i can keep power usage to the limit. as of now my GPU is the bottleneck when comes to playing games like Metro Exodus, warframe, Destiny2, my concern will be that this GPU will show its age when playing with upcoming titles like Cyberpunk 2077. as in metro exodus cpu stays at 35% or so while GPU jumps in between 65-100% and graphic suffers a lot also sometimes lowering resolution to 1024*768 improves a bit of FPS. SO then playing with this resolution with a midrange card will be able to keep my power usage to Limit or not is my query.

Well, I will try to understand:

You are worried if the rx 580 would maybe exceed the power limits of your system?

Your R7 250 2gb is a dedicated gpu not that much better than the integrated one from your apu (unless it's 250X). Is the 230W you are pulling with the panel included?

While the rx580 is quite nice it may be your A10 7700K that will hold you back, especially at resolutions of 1080p or less. And it does need quite some power, too.

What else do you use to have this power-draw?

What psu do you use?

I'm wondering why you are worried about total system consumption. The rx 580 can run 720p games with lower power consumption if it's capped in fps (either by in-game cap, software or a cpu bottleneck) but it would still need a power supply with a 8-pin PCIe cable as it otherwise won't turn on.

So what's your power supply?

yes that much is available on my Power supply to give it full fat 8 pin worth of power. also I am worried as in my locality in india few wattage increment count for me to my powerbill and also i get an extra overcharge if i cross set amount of units in 2 months duration. so that is the only reason, somehow now upgrading to new cooler from the stock one resulted in lower overall system power consumption and that i saw on my powerbill. before it was stock AMD cooler which was a big aluminium heat sink now it is Coolermaster hyper 410R.  Any Ways Thanks a lot for the Answer.

If your powerbill is a concern get the cheapest card out of these:

GTX 1060 6GB
RX 5500XT
GTX 1650 Super

Those cards perform similarily to the 580, but draw way less power, only half the power a 580 uses. Those cards can then also be set (via msi afterburner or other software) to draw even less power. And on 720p they would still give you more fps than you'd need.

Thanks a lot. i guess 5500XT would be the choice i will go as i use radeon relive quiet a lot in some recording gameplay occasionally. with my current setup OBS is not ideal. 5500XT would be somewhat futureproof.

Futureproof if you plan on upgrading the A10-7700K and the mainboard, yes.

Otherwise it's still the A10 which will hold you back. So, power consumption is a concern to you, but I still do not know for sure if you do have an R7 250 as a dedicated gpu or if you are using the integrated gpu of the A10-7700K - which is R7 as well - and call it R7 250. There's only a tiny performance-difference between these two.

Why? Because any gpu you add will also add to your power-bill, and you already seem to be concerned about it with your actual setup. No matter which card you add it will increase the power-draw.

Your new cooler is worse than the former? Because if you're drawing less power with the new one your cpu is trying to reduce its power-draw, that can be due to heating up quicker.

greetings, yes , you are absolutely correct, probably i can save that cash of this 5500XT and better wait for a bit longer for new offerings in later date, by all means adding any new thing will definitely increase my power consumption. so probably i will make out some new configuration as soon as i get suitable and reasonable resale value to which i dont expect much to get but will get something to invest in new system which i can call it a proper futureproof.

I highly appreciate all the Comments on this topic, Thank you a lot. :)
