hello everyone.

Recently I installed my i7 6700k into a new mainboard.  usually that is not a huge issue but this time when I put it did  it didn't align/didn't actually go in but sorta just sit on top of the pins.  I must have put it slightly off center. I thought of removing it and try again but when I tried to lift it , it ctually snapped in place. I think I might have moved it accidentally which caused it to align.  I gave it a little wiggle and it seemed alright so I pushed down the lever and it seemed to went in smoothly.

My system seems to run fine except for one of the front usb ports not working.  now my question is: Is it possible that during this any pins got bent and might that cause one of the front usb ports not to work properly? the ports on the board itself work fine.

Thank you for the quick response.  the thing is I have two front ports. the left one is working properly and the right one is not. I checked the cable and it seems to be flush and all the way in.  could it be that the port on the panel itself is faulty?

my case is fractals meshify c

Hello and welcome.

Is it a USB port next to your LAN port?

If it's those ports then it's going through the chipset.  Could be the cable, the port, or combination of the two for that particular port.  I would think if the connection from the chipset to the CPU is wonky then it wouldn't be as granular as effecting a single USB port, but more for everything going through the chipset.  This is me talking out of my ass though.

Have you removed the CPU to inspect the socket and CPU?

I haven't removed it yet. but I have 4 ram sticks running in xmp all recognized and the cpu also passed Intel's diagnostic test. given that those failing are typical symptoms of bent pins I figured it must be alright.

so before removing the cooler and everything I wanted to know how likely it even is that a bent pin might be responsible?
